Wake up every day that would be a start [I would not complain of my wounded heart]
[For the majority of us, the past is a regret and the future an experiment. - Mark Twain]
Surprisingly he doesn’t have a lot of regret. There haven’t been many moments in his life that he wished he could take back. He doesn’t regret the way he used to break out and watch Liz or anything to do with her really. Regret just isn’t in his repertoire. The future though…that is an experiment. For the first time in his life, he’s on his own. There’s not bureau to keep tabs on him and Father has been gone for a long while. Abe is off on his own sabbatical, Myers is still in Antartica and Liz—well Liz has chosen to try normal again. Despite the fact she’s aware that his kids might not be normal.
And all of that brings him here, to a smoky, shadowed jazz club to watch a long legged blond that he hasn’t quite figured out yet. She’s got a life that’s not quite normal but it’s also not nearly as weird as his life. She’s gorgeous and she’s kind and for some reason, she’s sort of interested in him. He doesn’t get it and he doesn’t expect it to last. He’s not even sure she realizes exactly how this has to go but he’s willing to take it as far as she’ll let it go. Plunging over the edge is just going to bring him heartache. He knows this but he’d rather live his life with pain than regret.
