Hellboy was pacing up on the roof. He had several dozen candles lit all over the place and some old jazz playing. There was an ice bucket full of beer and some kind of chairs that Lucy had insisted he needed for this semi-impromptu date-talk-meeting...whatever it was. He was pretty much a fail in the romance department but he knew that and he'd asked Lucy for help. They'd been dancing around this relationship thing for weeks now and he's decided they really need to discuss this and figure out where it's going. That's the point of this rooftop rendezvous. He's nervous, in fact he's beyond nervous. The last woman he opened up to took off on him and is now living in New Zealand or something, pregnant with his babies. It stands to reason he's concerned about opening up to Jill. He'd rather get eaten by something with the intention of blowing it up again. He knows he'll survive that.
'We need to talk' was never a good sign in Jill's experience. After trying on several dresses, she went with her default color of black and donned a single-strap little black dress with a pair of Rene Caovilla three inch heels. She always tried to wear heels when she knew she was going to be around Hellboy for any length of time. It narrowed the height difference by a little.
Nervously, she walked out onto the roof after climbing the wire stairwell at the top of the hotel to get there. For a brief moment she froze as she took in the scene; the candles and the jazz... Hellboy. Finally, she grinned and walked across the roof to where he was pacing. "Hey you." She greeted him, her hands fidgeting nervously in front of her.
He paused in his pacing, looking up when she walked onto the roof. He swallowed hard, taking in her appearance. She was...well gorgeous came to mind and it made him wonder again what in the hell she was doing with him. All of the sudden this talk seemed ridiculous. There was no way she was going to stick with him. He took a deep breath and a moment to convince himself not to push her away before she did. He cleared his throat and gave her a halfway grin.
"Sorta feel underdressed here, Darlin'. You look good," he told her with a glance down. He was wearing his favorite black leather pants and black leather biker boots but he'd forgone a shirt just because he was more comfortable without one.
"You're not underdressed. Trust me." One palm lay flat to his chest. His skin was hotter than anyone she knew as usual. Even when she leaned up on the tips of her toes she barely reached his cheek. He still had to lean down just a little so that she could place a kiss there. "You're just right."
If Hellboy could have blushed, he would have. Instead he ducked his head, letting her kiss his cheek while his arm went around her waist. "Thanks," he mumbled a bit. "You want a beer?" he asked.
She smiled up at him, feigning a confidence that she didn't feel inside. But she thought that maybe the beer might help her in that respect so she nodded. "Yeah, I'll have one if you have one too. You can't make a girl drink alone... or you could, I mean... if you really wanted to but please don't make me drink alone." There went her calm, cool and collected front. So much for confidence.
Hellboy chuckled and shook his head. "When have you ever known me to turn down a beer?" he asked as he walked over and pulled two bottles out of the bucket of ice. He twisted the tops off on both of them and handed one to Jill. "You wanna sit down? Or are you good with standin'? I don't really got a plan for tonight...just...y'know."
"Maybe I should sit." Jill moved to a chair and sat down. After sipping at her beer, she crossed one leg over the other and smoothed out the short skirt of her dress before looking back up to him. "So what's up, Hot Sauce?"
Hellboy took a long drink of his beer, trying to put his words into order. He cleared his throat and shrugged. "Well...y'know I guess...I mean we been doin' this thing and m'not sure what it is or where we're goin' with it but I'm startin' to think we oughta figure it out. Y'know?" He glanced over at Jill, eyes traveling up her legs to her eyes.
She listened, her head tilting slightly as she did. "Like... give it a name? Aren't we together?" She asked.
"I dunno. Are we?" Hellboy asked. "I mean...I'm kinda lettin' you take the lead on this whole thing 'cause I'm still tryin' to figure out what you're doing with a guy that looks like me. We don't gotta name anything if you don't wanna. Truth is, pretty much anythin' you wanna be with me, I'm good with it. And I'm sayin' this all kinds of wrong."
"Maybe I should stand up." Jill stood up and rested one arm across her stomach while she sipped at her beer. She began to pace the floor of the roof as he thought. "I mean... Hellboy, I just want to be with you, in your life. I mean you don't have to. If you don't want to be anything to me you don't have to." She wasn't going to force anyone to be with her. Life wasn't ever really very kind to her except where Lucy was concerned.
He was crap with words. He knew he was crap with words so instead of screwing anything up anymore, he walked over to her and put his left hand underneath her chin, tilting her face up to him then wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her close as he dipped his head and kissed her. He wasn't gentle or timid about it. It was a passionate, hard, full kiss that left little room for argument about what he wanted with her. Her lips parted beneath his and after the shock wore off she yielded to the wanted kiss. As always, he was so warm... almost too hot to the touch and that was something she had grown accustomed to.
"Do you want to be with me?" She asked almost breathlessly when the kiss broke. "Please say yes."
"Oh hell yes," Hellboy half growled. He tangled one hand in her hair and pulled her close again into another kiss. He had no damn idea what he was doing here because relationships, really not his thing but he know this was the best he'd felt in a long time. Jill made him happy and she made him feel appreciated. He didn't know how long she was going to want this but he was going to take it and run with it as long as she'd let it go. An age old story of a beauty and beast, both clicking together for reasons that no one else could understand. But then again they didn't have to. The missing puzzle piece suddenly found and clicked into place was only the beginning of this not so normal fairytale.
